WNBA star Brittney Griner was sentenced to 9 years in a Russian prison on Thursday.
Russian prosecutors had argued that Griner, who was convicted of sneaking marijuana vaping materials into the country, should serve 9 1/2 years in prison.
The request came during closing arguments in a court outside Moscow, nearly six months after the 6-foot, 9-inch WNBA star was nabbed at an airport with contraband.
