A freshman West Virginia lawmaker who recorded himself storming the US Capitol Wednesday won’t resign, as his attorney claimed he broke no laws and was only exercising his constitutional rights during the riot.
Republican Delegate Derrick Evans posted video of himself inside the Capitol Rotunda on Wednesday while wearing a helmet, saying, “We’re in, baby!” and yelling for others not to vandalize the building.
Evans later deleted the clip, but the footage is still available on Twitter. Democratic state leaders are now urging him to resign as the Republican speaker of the West Virginia House said he must “answer to his constituents and colleagues” for his actions.
