With Tuesday’s Georgia Senate runoff race appearing to deliver a victory for Democrats Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock, Democrats on the hard Left are ready for an all-Democratic, if narrow, government control of Congress and the White House to deliver on some of their top priorities.
The measures, though, require support not only from all 50 Democratic senators, but also require either ending the Senate filibuster (a measure that centrist Democratic Sen. Joe Manchin of West Virginia is opposed to) or additional support from at least 10 Senate Republicans.
Still, those on the Left see a rare opening. The last time that there was a Democratic trifecta was more than a decade ago in 2009 and 2010 during the first two years of President Barack Obama’s presidency.
New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez tweeted her wish list on Wednesday. “Who’s ready to PUSH?” she asked, mentioning student loan cancellation, ending the death penalty, voting rights measures, and policies
