A staffer for Sen. Ron Johnson (R-WI) sought to have delivered a slate of “alternate” electors to then-Vice President Mike Pence that would swing the results of the 2020 election in favor of President Donald Trump, according to text messages revealed by the Jan. 6 committee.
The aide, Sean Riley, texted Chris Hodgson, who was the director of legislative affairs for the vice president, at 12:37 p.m. on Jan. 6, according to a screenshot of the messages. This was the day a joint session of Congress met, with Pence presiding over the event, to certify the results of the 2020 presidential election.
