
As we previously reported, the White House was placed on lockdown this afternoon after Secret Service shot an armed man nearby.

Now, the Secret Service has provided more details on what happened.

Secret Service Deputy Director Matt Quinn says that agents were forced to return fire after the suspect shot at them.
The suspect, whose name has not been released, is currently in the hospital.
Fox News reported:
The shooting happened near 15th Street and Independence Avenue, a little over a half mile from the White House and close to the Washington Monument.
