Del Rio Sector Border Patrol agents rescued a group of migrants locked inside a railcar in Eagle Pass, Texas. Border Patrol officials in the Del Rio and Laredo Sectors report increases in the use of trains to smuggle migrants.
Union Pacific Railroad Police summoned Border Patrol agents to a freight yard in Eagle Pass, Texas, on September 1. In an all-too-common occurrence, Border Patrol agents removed 27 migrants hidden in multiple railcars. Agents found one migrant, hidden in a new car recently assembled in Mexico. Agents treated the migrant who became unresponsive from heat exhaustion.
The unidentified migrant, as the video shows, had to be lowered from the railcar’s upper deck using a ladder. Several agents gently lowered the unidentified migrant from the railcar so trained Border Patrol emergency medical technicians could render treatment. The migrant was transported to a local hospital for heat exhaustion and later released.
