USDT Is Coming Back to Bitcoin—This Time Through RGB and Lightning

USDT is heading back to Bitcoin through a new set of rails. The old Omni version faded as stablecoin activity moved to faster and cheaper networks.

The new route uses RGB for asset issuance and the Lightning Network for payments. The goal is to make the world’s largest stablecoin usable on Bitcoin-native infrastructure without forcing every transaction and contract detail onto Bitcoin’s base layer.

CoinDesk reported that Tether is preparing the return with Utexo, an infrastructure company building wallet, exchange and custody connections for the rollout. The planned launch would put USDT on Bitcoin again more than a decade after its Omni debut.
