President Donald Trump voiced his support for Republican gubernatorial candidate Steve Hilton and Vince Fong, who has served as a representative for California’s 20th congressional district since 2024, ahead of the Golden State’s primary elections.
In Truth Social posts on Monday, the 47th president lent his endorsement to the gubernatorial and congressional candidates.
Hilton (R-Calif.) is hoping to finish in the top two after Tuesday night’s primary, keeping alive his bid to become California’s first Republican governor since 2011. He faces a close race with Democrats like Xavier Becerra, the former Health and Human Services (HHS) secretary under the Biden administration, as well as billionaire Tom Steyer.
Trump first endorsed him back in April, expressing that the state has been in decline. He added that, having known Hilton for a while now, he believes he’s the man to bring California back.
“I have known and respected Steve Hilton, who is running for Governor of California, for many years,” the president wrote on his Truth Social platform on Monday. “He is a truly fine man, one who has watched as this once great State has gone to Hell.”
“Gavin Newscum and the Democrats have done an absolutely horrendous job,” he continued, referring to incumbent Governor Gavin Newsom (D-Calif.), who is term-limited. “People are fleeing, crime is increasing, and Taxes are the highest of any State in the Country, maybe the World.”
“Steve can turn it around, before it is too late, and, as President, I will help him to do so!” Trump said. “With Federal help, and a Great Governor, like Steve Hilton, California can be better than ever before!” “Steve Hilton has my COMPLETE & TOTAL ENDORSEMENT. He will be a GREAT Governor and, importantly, WILL NEVER LET YOU DOWN!!!” He concluded.
The president also had good things to say about Representative Vince Fong (R-Calif.), emphasizing that he is a champion of cutting taxes, sustainable water management, secure borders and more.
The jungle primary is underway and polls close at 8pm PST.
