Trump removed line from speech calling on DOJ to prosecute Jan. 6 rioters, video shows

Former President Donald Trump removed a line from a speech that called on the Department of Justice to prosecute rioters who broke the law during the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol, according to previously unseen video footage.

Former White House aides pushed Trump to release a video the day after the riot to quiet suggestions of impeachment or removal from office through the 25th Amendment, according to testimony from Cassidy Hutchinson, a former aide to then-White House chief of staff Mark Meadows. The speech, titled “Remarks on National Healing,” was posted online more than 24 hours after Trump instructed supporters on Jan. 6, 2021, to “go home.”
