President Donald Trump warned on Monday that the month-long ceasefire between the United States and Iran is now on “massive life support,” with only a “1 percent chance of living,” following his blunt rejection of Tehran’s latest diplomatic counterproposal.

“I would say the ceasefire is on massive life support … when the doctor walks in and says, ‘Sir, your loved one has approximately a 1 percent chance of living,’” Trump said on Monday in remarks to reporters. “I would call it the weakest right now, after reading that piece of garbage they sent us. I didn’t even finish reading it.”

Speaking from the Oval Office, Trump then suggested a potential return to full-scale hostilities in a conflict that has already affected global shipping and sent some energy markets into a tailspin.

“I have just read the response from Iran’s so-called ‘Representatives.’ I don’t like it — TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE!…” he added on Truth Social.

The president’s comments followed a weekend of high-stakes diplomacy mediated by Pakistan, which has been attempting to bridge the gap between Washington’s demands for a total nuclear rollback and Tehran’s insistence on regional sovereignty.

Trump expressed particular frustration over the omission of a previously discussed provision that would have allowed the U.S. or China to physically remove Iran’s stockpile of highly enriched uranium. “They keep walking back agreed positions,” Trump told reporters, adding that Iranian negotiators are “playing games” and failing to commit to a permanent abandonment of their nuclear weapons ambitions.

The rejected counterproposal from Tehran, which Iranian state media described as “reasonable and responsible,” reportedly called for an immediate end to the U.S. naval blockade of Iranian ports, the release of frozen assets, and a 30-day suspension of oil sanctions.

Iran had also demanded “full sovereignty” over the Strait of Hormuz and conflict reparations from the United States — conditions that the White House described as an “unacceptable” demand for surrender.

Nonetheless, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei defended the proposal, stating that Tehran’s priorities were focused on lifting “excessive” sanctions rather than revisiting nuclear issues that have served as a catalyst for recent strikes.

Meanwhile, the diplomatic breakdown comes as the 10-week-old conflict reaches a perilous inflection point. While a technical truce has been in place since April 8th, recent days have seen a surge in “gray zone” hostilities, including drone strikes targeting vessels near Qatar and the United Arab Emirates.

The U.S. military has also maintained its blockade of Iranian southern ports since mid-April, reportedly disabling several commercial vessels attempting to breach the perimeter.

In a televised interview, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu backed Trump’s hardline stance, asserting that the conflict remains unfinished as long as Iran’s nuclear infrastructure and enriched uranium remain intact.

As the ceasefire teeters on the brink of collapse, the Trump administration has reiterated that Iran’s air force and naval capabilities have been effectively neutralized. However, Tehran has also declared that it is prepared for a “powerful confrontation” under new directives from Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei.

Current Status of Mojtaba’s Health

Iranian State Reports: As of Sunday, senior Iranian officials claimed that Mojtaba is in “full health” and recovering well. They also admitted, for the first time, that he was indeed injured during the February 28th strikes, suffering injuries to his “kneecap and lower back,” as well as a “minor injury behind his ear.” Officials further dismissed what they called “rumors” of severe facial wounds or permanent disability.

U.S. / Western Intelligence: Many intelligence reports suggest his injuries, described as burns and shrapnel wounds, were much more severe and potentially disfiguring. The fact that he has not yet made a televised public address and has communicated through written statements or trusted “couriers” has only fueled this intelligence.

Trump is scheduled to arrive in Beijing on Wednesday evening to initiate a three-day summit with President Xi Jinping, where he is expected to exert more pressure on the Chinese leader regarding Beijing’s continued economic and military-civilian support for Tehran.

A senior administration official confirmed that the president intends to confront Xi over “multiple instances” of Chinese revenue flowing to Iran through oil sales and the export of dual-use technologies, which Washington, D.C., maintains have directly facilitated Iranian military strikes against U.S. forces in the Middle East.
