Six Long-Dormant Bitcoin Wallets Move $40 Million in 10 Days

Six Bitcoin wallets that had been quiet since the early 2010s suddenly moved 553.59 BTC over a ten-day stretch, putting more than $40 million of long-idle coins back in motion.

A wallet transfer is not proof of a sale. The unusual part is the timing: these coins sat through multiple crashes, exchange failures, halvings and record highs without moving.

Then, between August 16 and August 26, all six wallets woke up.

Decrypt reviewed the alerts from Galaxy Research and calculated that the six movements totaled 553.59 BTC worth about $40.15 million at the time of transfer. The oldest coins had been untouched since 2011, when Bitcoin traded for a tiny fraction of its current value.
