The Secret Service agent who was shot during the White House Correspondents’ Dinner on Saturday has been released from the hospital.

The unidentified agent was wearing a bulletproof vest at the time of the shooting. Officials said the protective gear helped prevent more serious injury.

“The ballistic vest helped us avoid a potential tragedy last night,” Secret Service said.

“At every protective site, the Secret Service deploys a sophisticated, layered security framework. These measures are rigorously calibrated during the advance process and were critical in mitigating the threat and preventing significant harm. We thank our law enforcement partners and are immensely proud of the dedicated special agents, police officers, mission support personnel, and technical law enforcement professionals of the Secret Service for their unwavering commitment and professionalism in executing this mission,” Secret Service said in a statement.
