San Diego Mayor: Active but contained shooter situation at the Islamic Center of San Diego

A massive police presence has converged on the Islamic Center of San Diego following reports of an active shooter.

On Monday morning, San Diego Mayor Todd Gloria confirmed on X that law enforcement is currently responding to an active shooter situation at the Clairemont-neighborhood mosque.

I am aware of the active shooter situation at the Islamic Center of San Diego in Clairemont and am continuing to receive updates from law enforcement. Emergency personnel are on scene and actively working to protect the community and secure the area.

Helicopter footage appeared to show one person wearing a tactical vest lying motionless at the scene, surrounded by a pool of blood. Authorities have not officially confirmed any deaths as of 12:45 p.m. PT.

While officials confirmed the situation is contained, it remains active, and police have not yet determined how many shooters were involved.
