MetaMask Exits Ethereum Validators While Investigating an Infrastructure Security Incident

MetaMask is pulling affected Ethereum validators out of service while it investigates a security incident involving part of its infrastructure. The company says it has found no immediate threat to MetaMask wallets.

That distinction matters. MetaMask has not disclosed compromised wallet balances or user withdrawal keys.

The company says the precaution involves its non-custodial staking operation, which does not control customers’ withdrawal keys.

MetaMask said it is addressing and remediating the issue with external partners and security advisers. It has not publicly described the cause or exact scope of the incident.

The company identified the affected area only as part of its infrastructure. It said the validator exits are precautionary and coordinated with clients and partners.
