On Friday, Warsh was sworn in by Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas during a ceremony at the White House, becoming the the 17th Federal Reserve chair.

Warsh previously served as a Fed governor from 2006 to 2011, becoming the youngest person ever to do so at the age of 35. He was first nominated to the chair role in January by President Donald Trump. He was then confirmed by the Senate in a 54-45 vote last week.

President Trump stated that no one in America was better prepared to lead the Federal Reserve and predicted that Warsh would go down as one of the greatest chairs in history.

“Today marks a return to an institution that I do in fact cherish. It was nearly a generation ago, at another time of great consequence, that I served alongside some outstanding public servants at the Fed, both here in Washington and at the Reserve banks,” Warsh continued.

“My goal now is to create an environment in which the best people can do their life’s best work, and to face every challenge in the spirit of common purpose and devotion to the national interest. In a word, to excellence. These duties are now mine, Mr. President, because of the trust you have placed in me, I accept them with gratitude and will strive every day to serve our fellow citizens well,” Warsh said.

The 56-year-old replaces Jerome Powell, who served eight years in the position before his term as chairman expired earlier in May. He will stay on as a governor of the Fed.
