In a bombshell excerpt, leaked from her recently announced memoir, former First Lady Jill Biden revealed she was left furious by what she described as Kamala Harris’s cold and calculated behavior after Joe Biden dropped out of the 2024 presidential race.
Jill Biden writes in her book, “View from the East Wing,” that Harris ruthlessly shifted into “courtroom prosecutor mode,” dismissing the shocking news of the president’s withdrawal to aggressively demand a rapid endorsement of her campaign — further securing her own political future.
According to the memoir, the conversation took place over speakerphone while the Bidens were spending a summer weekend at their beach home in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware. When Jill suggested waiting until the following morning to officially release an endorsement statement, Harris sharply insisted, “I want it sooner,” declaring that any delay would be an opening for “mischief.”
After the president responded that he would call her back as soon as he figures “this out,” Harris continued to press them, asking, “Could you do it soon? Say, in 20 minutes?”
Jill then notes in her book that she was so disturbed by the high-pressure demand that she walked out of the room mid-conversation. Less than 30 minutes later, the endorsement statement was officially released — effectively crushing any chance of an open “mini-primary” before the Democratic National Convention (DNC) in Chicago the next month.
Her memoir also revealed her deep dissatisfaction with the selection of Harris as the vice-presidential running mate in 2020, citing Harris’s sharp personal attacks against Biden during the primary debates.
“There are millions of people in the United States. Why do we have to choose the one who attacked Joe,” she questioned.
Ultimately, the book reveals Harris was chosen and pushed forward by Ron Klain, who would go on to become the White House Chief of Staff, as he believed Harris provided the ticket with the absolute best tactical chance of winning the presidency.
“Yes, Harris had attacked Biden more harshly than any other major candidate in the Democratic primaries. Yes, the Biden family had seen it as a smear and a betrayal. In Klain’s assessment, that would work to Biden’s advantage,” the book states. “Choosing Harris will show people that you are magnanimous and forgiving, Klain told Biden. It will show the country just what a unifying leader you can be.”
