
Former FBI Director James Comey was indicted by the Department of Justice on Tuesday over an Instagram photo from May 2025 of seashells in the sand spelling out “86 47,” a message that some have claimed was a subliminal threat calling to end the life of President Donald Trump. After Tuesday’s indictment was announced, Comey released a video on Substack professing his innocence.
“Well, they’re back,” Comey said. “This time about a picture of seashells on a North Carolina beach a year ago.”

“And this won’t be the end of it, but nothing has changed with me,” Comey said. “I’m still innocent, I’m still not afraid, and I still believe in the independent federal judiciary. So, let’s go.”
