Alex Jones’ longtime program Infowars is officially shuttering operations.
On Thursday, Jones said farewell to his fans as The Onion, an American digital media company and newspaper organization, works to purchase the company.
Infowars is facing liquidation following more than $1.4 billion in defamation judgments against Jones. Jones was ordered to pay damages to the families of victims of the 2012 Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting after falsely claiming the Connecticut tragedy was a hoax.
The acquisition of Infowars by The Onion is still being reviewed in court. The company plans to relaunch the platform as a satire site that would parody Jones, conspiracy theories, and conservative talking points, with proceeds directed to the families of Sandy Hook victims.
Jones founded the show in 1999. At its peak, it boasted millions of listeners.
