
Scott, 80, was first elected to the House in 2002 to represent the voters of Georgia’s 13th congressional district. The seat, which includes parts of Atlanta and its suburbs, is safely Democratic. Former Vice President Kamala Harris carried the district by 43 percentage points over President Donald Trump in 2024.
Scott has suffered from poor health in recent years, even using a wheel chair to traverse the U.S. Capitol. The Georgia Democrat was running for re-election this year to another term at the time of his death.
