Crypto companies and foundations are competing for control of new top-level domains including .bitcoin, .wallet, .crypto, .ada and .frax as part of the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers’ first major application round since 2012.

ICANN says the 2026 round produced 1,615 applications from 481 applicants. The organization will now evaluate the bids, resolve competing claims and determine which proposed extensions can eventually enter the internet’s domain-name system.
