United States Central Command (CENTCOM) claimed that Iran launched a ballistic missile at Kuwait, calling the attack an “egregious ceasefire violation.”

CENTCOM said the attack took place at 10:17p.m. ET on Wednesday, with Kuwaiti forces intercepting the missile. It also claimed that beforehand, Iran launched five drones threatening the Strait of Hormuz that U.S. forces intercepted.

“This egregious ceasefire violation by the Iranian regime occurred hours after Iranian forces launched five one-way attack drones that posed a clear threat in and near the Strait of Hormuz,” the command said in a Thursday statement.

It also said U.S. forces prevented a sixth drone launch from a site in Bandar Abbas in southern Iran, which is on the coast of the strait.

“U.S. Central Command and regional partners remain vigilant and measured as we continue to defend our forces and interests from unjustified Iranian aggression,” CENTCOM stated.

On Thursday, Kuwait’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) condemned the attack, stating the Gulf country has the right to defend itself “against any aggression or threat.”

“This Ministry of Foreign Affairs expresses the State of Kuwait’s strongest condemnation and denunciation of the criminal Iranian attacks that targeted the territory of the State of Kuwait with missiles and drones,” the ministry posted to X in Arabic.

It called the attack “a direct threat to the lives of civilians and vital facilities.” The MOFA also recognized current peace efforts, claiming the attacks undermined diplomacy.

“The Ministry affirms that this escalation comes at a time when earnest efforts are being exerted by a number of brotherly and friendly countries to reduce tensions, de-escalate, and spare the region further escalation, which amplifies the gravity of these attacks and undermines diplomatic efforts,” it said.

“It demands that Iran immediately and unconditionally cease these criminal attacks, and holds it fully responsible for them,” it continued.

According to the Associated Press, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), through the Iranian state news agency IRNA, acknowledged an attack in the southern part of the country, near Bandar Abbas International Airport, and claimed a retaliatory attack was launched on the air base responsible, though it did not specify whether this referenced Kuwait.

Wednesday’s hostilities follow CENTCOM’s Tuesday announcement that U.S. forces had conducted “self-defense” strikes in southern Iran, which included targeting missile launch sites and Iranian boats attempting to place mines.

During a Wednesday meeting with his Cabinet members, President Donald Trump said the Middle Eastern nation was “negotiating on fumes” and that “we’ll see what happens,” insinuating that a renewal of hostilities was not off the table as efforts to make a deal continue.
