
The man who shot and killed 13 people at Fort Hood nearly two decades ago will face execution by firing squad, according to an order from President Donald Trump.
U.S. Army Major and psychiatrist Nidal Malik Hasan was convicted for the Nov. 2009 mass shooting that killed 13 and injured at least 30 others near Killeen, Texas. He was sentenced to death after a 2013 court-martial.
Hasan said in court that the attack was intended to keep the US out of Afghanistan and avoid the killing of his fellow Muslims.
On Monday, the president approved the U.S. Army firing squad execution recommended by Sec. of War Pete Hegseth, according to a statement from Sean Parnell, Hegseth’s spokesperson.
