The heads of state of Argentina and Israel announced the Isaac Accords in Jerusalem on Sunday in order to strengthen diplomatic and commercial ties between the two nations.

Framed as a Western Hemisphere sequel to the Abraham Accords championed by President Donald Trump which established agreements between Israel and Arab nations, Argentinian President Javier Milei and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu celebrated the Isaac Accords and invited other Latin American countries to participate.

According to a statement from the Argentinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Trade and Worship, the accords are meant to promote peace and support long-term regional stability, security, and economic prosperity.

Milei, who conceived the framework for the Isaac Accords, hailed the precedent Abraham Accords and highlighted President Trump’s commitment to peace in the Middle East, saying his leadership is key in ending regional instability, per a communication from the Argentinian president’s office.

U.S. Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee, who was also at the meeting in Jerusalem, praised both leaders.

“It is a distinct honor to be able to stand here with two of President Trump’s greatest friends. I don’t know of any two world leaders on our planet that our president has more respect for and more personal relationship with than President Milei and Prime Minister Netanyahu,” Huckabee said at the press conference.

Milei pointed to the fact that Isaac is the son of Abraham, noting the connection between the agreements, and that the accords seek to extend the same spirit to Latin America and strengthen diplomatic, commercial, cultural and strategic relations between Israel and Latin American nations.

He also said the accords seek to unite efforts against terrorism, antisemitism and narcotrafficking.

The two nations signed several Memorandums of Understanding on a variety of sectors, strengthening ties in multiple areas. It was announced that direct flights will open up between Israel and Argentina, and Huckabee quipped that he wants to be the first to buy a ticket.

“My reason is quite simple: I want to go with a bunch of freezers and bring back some of that fantastic Argentina beef that is world [renowned],” he joked.

Milei also affirmed the willingness to move the Argentinian embassy to Jerusalem when conditions allow.

The leaders highlighted shared values and moral goals, and invited other nations in the Western Hemisphere to join the accords.

“I’m confident that with our moral clarity and our partnership, our great partnership with the United States, we shall achieve our objectives and bring more light and more hope for the free peoples of the world,” the Israeli prime minister said.

Huckabee also emphasized the stand for moral clarity by the leaders, and cited the Judeo-Christian foundations underpinning the United States, Israel, and Argentina.

The announcement of the accords occurred against the backdrop of the conflict with Iran, which began on February 28th with U.S. and Israeli attacks on the Islamic Republic. Trump and U.S. officials have repeatedly voiced a key goal of the campaign is the dismantling of the Iranian nuclear program.

Huckabee alluded to the conflict, and explained that the U.S. commander-in-chief is committed to peace and understands the need for military strength in accomplishing this goal.

“President Trump has helped changed the world by changing swords into plowshares. But let’s be clear, there can’t be plowshares unless there are swords,” the ambassador said.

“Swords is what creates the peace that makes it possible for there to be the farms and the gardens and the ranches that produce the fruits and the vegetables–and the beef–that make it possible for us to live and prosper.”
