After United States Customs and Border Patrol Chief Raul Ortiz contradicted his boss, Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, by telling a House committee the federal government doesn’t have “operational control” of the southern border, Rep. Chip Roy recalled Mayorkas’ patronizing tone when Roy asked him the same question.
Asked by Rep. Mark Green (R-TN), the chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee, “Does THS have operation control of our entire border,” Ortiz answered succinctly, “No, sir.” Green then pointed out the actual definition of operational control per the U.S. Code: “The prevention of all unlawful entries into the United States, including entries by terrorists, other unlawful aliens, instruments of terrorism, narcotics, and other contraband.”
