A 20-year-old Utah woman died when she slipped and fell down a “steep incline” while hiking in Switzerland on a Latter-day Saints mission.
Annabelle Nielsen, of Highland, was with five other missionaries Tuesday when the accident happened, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints said.
Nielsen had been serving the Alpine German-Speaking Mission, where she’d been assigned since July 2019.
“We express our sincere condolences to her family and loved ones,” spokesman Daniel Woodruff said in a statement.
“We pray they will feel the peace and comfort of our loving Heavenly Father as they deal with this tragedy and honor her life.”
Woodruff said they’re in touch with the missioners who witnessed her death and are “working to provide them with the necessary support as they process what happened.”
