Woman charged after shots fired at Illinois lawmaker’s home


A suspect is in custody and facing charges after shots were fired at two homes, including one occupied by an Illinois state senator. 

Police have said the shootings were not politically motivated. Around early Tuesday, police arrived at the home of Democratic Illinois state Sen. Meg Loughran Cappel in the southwest suburbs of Chicago after reports of shots being fired.

“I’m able to speak about this because I’m an elected official, and I really wanted to talk about it first and foremost because the rumor mill is going,” Cappel said in a statement. “The first thing we think about now is that it could be a politically motivated thing.
