A Chicago firefighter trapped on top of a burning building while battling a blaze Friday saved himself by leaping to an adjacent rooftop, dramatic video shows.
The footage, captured by WGN-TV, shows the fireman jumping to safety after being stranded atop a residential building fully engulfed in flames and dark smoke in the city’s Bridgeport section.
The extra-alarm blaze broke out about 7 a.m. in the 2700 block of South Lowe Avenue as power lines in the neighborhood were catching fire, the station reported.

Firefighters were spotted coming down a ladder from the building’s rooftop as the news station’s helicopter arrived above the massive blaze. Footage then captured the smoke-eater jumping from the burning building’s rooftop to escape flames.
