A new poll shows former President Donald Trump still enjoys the support of the vast majority of Republican voters, while Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell’s popularity among the same group is in decline.
The percentage of GOP voters who view Trump either very favorably or somewhat favorably was 87%, while only 12% viewed the former president as somewhat unfavorable or very unfavorable. Meanwhile, the poll found that only 36% of respondents viewed McConnell favorably, compared to 51% that said they don’t.
The polling data came as Trump released a scathing statement aimed at McConnell Tuesday, with the former president calling the Kentucky Republican “a dour, sullen, and unsmiling political hack.”
“Mitch is a dour, sullen, and unsmiling political hack, and if Republican Senators are going to stay with him, they will not win again,” Trump said in the statement. “He will never do what needs to be done, or what is right for our Country. Where necessary
