US strikes multiple ISIS targets in Syria in second response to slain soldiers


The United States has struck “multiple” ISIS targets in Syria as part of its continued response to the killing of three Americans by the terrorist group last month.

U.S. Central Command announced the strikes were part of Operation Hawkeye Strike, which began in mid-December after an ISIS-affiliated gunman killed two U.S. soldiers and a U.S. civilian interpreter in Palmyra, Syria.

“Today, at approximately 12:30 p.m. Eastern Time, U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) forces, alongside partner forces, conducted large-scale strikes against multiple ISIS targets across Syria,” CENTCOM said in a press release. “The strikes today targeted ISIS throughout Syria as part of our ongoing commitment to root out Islamic terrorism against our warfighters, prevent future attacks, and protect American and partner forces in the region.
