US government seeks volunteers to shoot bison at Grand Canyon

Uncle Sam wants you — to butcher bison in Grand Canyon National Park.

The National Park Service has put out a call for individuals “skilled” in “bison removal,” as the government looks for volunteers to help kill hundreds of bovinaes in northern Arizona.

“Reducing the herd size will protect the park ecosystem, resources and values,” the agency said.

Only a dozen qualified volunteers will ultimately be selected for the September slaughter, officials said. Applications will be accepted through Monday.

Ideal candidates will have no criminal history, be physically fit, have firearm safety certification and be able to “pass a marksmanship proficiency test,” the government said.

Bison killers must also supply their own weapons, according to the post.
