U.S. regulators are severely restricting the Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine for causing blood clots in recipients.
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is giving a recommendation that the Johnson & Johnson jab only be administered if specifically requested or there are no other vaccines available.
“If there’s an alternative that appears to be equally effective in preventing severe outcomes from COVID-19, we’d rather see people opting for that,” said FDA vaccine chief Dr. Peter Marks. “But we’ve been careful to say that — compared to no vaccine — this is still a better option.”
