President-elect Donald Trump all but confirmed he will fire FBI Director Christopher Wray once he takes office in January, stating he is “very unhappy” with the current direction and leadership of the agency.
Wray would not be the first FBI director to be fired by Trump, as the former president previously fired then-FBI Director James Comey in 2017, choosing to appoint Wray shortly after. However, Trump revealed in a one-on-one interview with NBC’s Meet the Press that he is currently not “thrilled” with Wray. He recently nominated Kash Patel to become the incoming Trump administration’s new FBI director.
