Trump Revives Clinton-Era Law to Charge Illegals Each $1,000 a Day They Remain in Country

The Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act of 1996, Section 274D, codified at 8 U.S.C. § 1324d, authorizes civil penalties for illegals ordered to leave but who remain.

Reporter Breanna Morello: DHS will enforce a law that will allow them to fine illegal aliens up to $998/day for failing to self deport from the U.S. This 1996 law also allows them to seize property for non-payment (X).

If an illegal alien has been given a deadline, the Trump admin is lawfully authorized to fine them up $1,000 per day for overstaying.

Non-compliance can result in jail, administrative forfeiture, lien authority, and more.
