Trump open to meeting with Jeffries, Schumer over shutdown deadlock


President Donald Trump signaled he is open to meeting with Democratic leadership in Congress as the government shutdown continues with no end in sight.

Trump was asked by a reporter on Saturday night whether he would “sit down” with House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) over the shutdown impasse after his trip to Asia.

“I would, I’d be willing to,” Trump responded. “I would’ve now, too. You know, I left, I said, ‘Come on over, just put the government back.’ All they have to do is say ‘yes’ and it’s over, and we start, and then we go into negotiation.”

He continued by bashing Obamacare, expiring subsidies of which are at the heart of the shutdown debate.
