
President Donald Trump cautiously praised the latest round of negotiations between the United States and Iran to end their five-weeklong war, saying the talks have taken a “significant step” forward as the two sides trade proposals.
“It’s a significant step,” Trump told reporters Monday after remarks at the White House’s Easter egg roll. “It’s not good enough, but it’s a very significant step.”
Talks between the two countries have hit a critical juncture ahead of a Tuesday night deadline that Trump set for Iran to come to an agreement with U.S. negotiators. The president wrote in a profanity-laden Truth Social post on Easter Sunday that Tuesday would be “Power Plant Day, and Bridge Day, all wrapped up in one, in Iran,” demanding that Iran reopen the Strait of Hormuz — or else it would be “living in Hell.”
