President Trump invoked a centuries-old law to quickly detain and deport all Venezuelan migrants who are suspected of being part of the Tren de Aragua gang.
Mr. Trump’s enactment of the 1798 Alien Enemies Act effectively treats suspected gang members like wartime enemies of the U.S. government, giving the Trump administration the power to arrest, detain and deport them with no due process.
The president ordered that all Venezuelan citizens 14 and older who are members of the gang, within the U.S. and are not naturalized or lawful permanent residents are “liable to be apprehended, restrained, secured, and removed as Alien Enemies.”
