President Trump on Tuesday called for “peace and calm” in the wake of the attack on the Capitol — as he also predicted an effort to oust him under the 25th Amendment would come back to “haunt” President-elect Joe Biden.
“It’s time for peace and calm. Respect for law enforcement… is the foundation of the MAGA agenda,” Trump said during a visit to Alamo, Texas.
Trump referred to his supporters who participated in the break-in as “a mob.”
“Millions of our citizens watched on Wednesday as a mob stormed the Capitol and trashed the halls of government. As I have consistently said throughout my administration, we believe in respecting America’s history and traditions, not tearing them down. We believe in the rule of law, not in violence or rioting,” he said.
Trump warned on Tuesday morning while leaving the White House that his likely impeachment by the House “is causing tremendous anger” and “causing tremendous danger to our country.”
