President Donald Trump endorsed Rep. Anna Paulina Luna‘s (R-FL) new parent proxy voting bill on Thursday in a blow to Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA), who has been working hard to kill the legislation he believes is “unconstitutional.”
Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One Thursday that he doesn’t understand why the legislation, which provides 12 weeks of leave for new parents who can then designate a member to vote for them, is “controversial.”
“I’m going to let the speaker make the decision, but I like the idea … I’m in favor of that … I would agree with that,” Trump said.

The comments come after Luna said on Wednesday that she talked to Trump about the issue, and “the president assured that this would get resolved.”
