Heartbreaking video shows an Indian man carrying the body of his wife to a burial site after she died of COVID-19 — as the country battles a catastrophic surge in infections.
The man, identified only as Swami, carried his deceased wife Nagalaxmi, who died in Telangana on Monday, about two miles to the burial ground in the town of Kamareddy, stopping along the way to ask for assistance, the New Indian Express reported.
But despite his pleas, no one lent a hand out of fears of contracting the disease, which has been ravaging the country, according to the outlet.
Drivers were seen ignoring the struggling man as his wife’s body lay on the road.
The couple used to live near a railroad station, where they begged for a living before Nagalaxmi became ill. The railway police gave Swami money to perform the final rites.
