A county Democratic official from Northeast Texas is facing demands to resign after he used a racist slur to refer to South Carolina Sen. Tim Scott following the GOPers rebuttal to President Biden’s speech Wednesday night.
“I had hoped that Scott might show some common sense, but it seems clear he is little more than an oreo with no real principles,” Lamar County Democratic Party chair Gary O’Connor wrote in a since-deleted Facebook post, Fox News reported.
Scott, one of only three Black U.S. Senators and the only Republican, has faced a barrage of racist attacks since his response to Biden’s address to Congress, including being called “Uncle Tim,” a reference to the novel, “Uncle Tom’s Cabin.”
That slur trended on social media for several hours Wednesday night. Twitter later banned the term from its trending topics.
Ironically, the attacks followed Scott’s attempt to portray the U.S. as an inclusive nation.
