Singer Katy Perry traveling to space on Monday with all-female crew


The “Woman’s World” singer will be part of an all-female commercial flight crew for space technology and rocket company Blue Origin. She will be joined by entrepreneur and aerospace engineer Aisha Bowe, activist Amanda Nguyen, journalist Gayle King, film producer Kerianne Flynn, and author and former journalist Lauren Sanchez. 

Sanchez is the fiancee of Jeff Bezos, the founder and executive chairman of Amazon and the owner of Blue Origin. 

Blue Origin’s mission on Monday is named NS-31, with the acronym standing for New Shepard, a “reusable rocket-capsule combo.” Its namesake is Alan Shepard, the first U.S. astronaut in space, who traveled on a suborbital flight on May 5, 1961.
