A New York woman who claimed she was raped by a stranger has been arrested and charged with filing a false police report, as well as performing a sexual act with a boy under the age of 17.
News 10 reported that 59-year-old Dawn Budelman of Stockport, New York, told police that a man had entered her home and forcibly raped her on February 28. The Sheriff’s Office Special Victim’s Unit immediately began an extensive investigation into her claims, which “included multiple interviews, collection of evidence and an examination at Columbia Memorial Hospital,” the outlet reported.
The unit eventually concluded that no forcible rape had occurred. Instead, police learned that Budelman “had consented to a sexual act with a minor male under the age of 17,” News 10 reported. In other words, statutory rape. Had Budelman been a man, police and media outlets would have used the term “rape” and not “consented to.”
