Senate Republicans advanced their efforts to undo strict energy regulations implemented in the final stretch of President Joe Biden’s administration. The Senate approved a measure in a 52-42 vote to overturn a Department of Energy rule that would prohibit certain natural gas water heaters starting in 2029. The resolution will now move to President Donald Trump for his signature.
Every Republican senator supported the repeal. Earlier this year, the House also passed the measure, with Rep. Gary Palmer of Alabama leading the charge to reverse the water heater ban. This regulation is the fourth energy-related policy from the Biden administration that Republican lawmakers have moved to repeal since Trump took office, as part of a larger initiative to dismantle Biden-era environmental and energy rules.
