Search continues for 5 missing Navy sailors, despite reports


The search for five sailors missing since their U.S. Navy helicopter crashed into the Pacific Ocean this week entered its fifth day, despite conflicting reports from officials.

The Coast Guard told Fox News on Friday it had ended its search efforts in the waters off San Diego the day before. The Coast Guard later clarified it was still assisting the Navy in its efforts to find the sailors.

An MH-603 Seahawk helicopter was operating on the deck of the USS Abraham Lincoln Tuesday afternoon when it plunged off the warship and into the water.

Six other sailors suffered injuries, one on the helicopter and five aboard the ship. 

“Two of the five Abraham Lincoln Sailors were transported ashore for treatment, while three of the five Abraham Lincoln Sailors had minimal injuries and remain aboard the ship. An investigation into the cause of the incident is underway,” the US Pacific Fleet reported.
