San Francisco Calls For State Of Emergency Because Of Surging Monkeypox


On Thursday, in response to the surge of the virus among the residents of the city, San Francisco officials called for a public health state of emergency due to monkeypox.

Mayor London Breed announced that 261 people have been reported with  monkeypox infections; according to local health officials, the number will continue to grow; the emergency declaration will be implemented Monday.

“If there were any other community that was disproportionately impacted by monkeypox the way the gay community has been impacted, this whole country would be up in arms,” Breed pontificated.

Unlike the city’s reaction to COVID, when restrictions were ordered for the populace, San Francisco Health Officer Susan Philip said she had no plans for any closures or restrictions. She admitted that the trajectory of the number
