“Making a Murderer” was a hit for Netflix when it premiered in 2015. It explored the details of Steven Avery being found guilty of murdering photographer Teresa Halbach, casting doubt on Avery’s guilt by omitting key details from the investigation and trial.
Owens described her new series as “apolitical” and noted how people on both the left and right fell for the documentary makers’ deceptive tactics that made Avery look innocent of the murder he was found guilty of committing.
