Rep. Steve Cohen (D-TN) pushed back against accusations that public broadcasting and other federally funded programs are vehicles for left-wing ideology during an appearance on C-SPAN’s Washington Journal on Wednesday morning.
“He obviously has a different worldview than I do,” Cohen said of a caller. “I don’t think PBS and NPR are some kind of communist state lunatic wackos like some Republicans say. I think NPR and PBS have been great for the public, particularly in rural areas.”
The segment featured a caller from Great Falls, Virginia, who criticized public broadcasting, Planned Parenthood, and U.S. defense spending in Europe.
