Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) released a Dear Colleague letter setting out her plan for starting the impeachment process for President Trump and for calling on Vice President Pence to invoke the 25th Amendment. Both initiatives have little likelihood of success beyond votes in the House. However, Pelosi plans to make Trump the only president to be impeached twice even if no Senate trial takes place.
Sen. Roy Blunt (R-MO) told KSHB-TV Friday that impeachment is not going to happen in the Senate:
“It’s not going to happen,” Blunt, a Republican, said about the possibility of another impeachment of Trump.
…”There is no way we’re going to impeach the president. There’s not the time to do it,” he said. “When (House Speaker) Nancy Pelosi and (Senate Minority Leader) Chuck Schumer were talking about it, it’s obviously just another political point trying to be made. It’s disappointing. It’d be much more disappointing if people can’t through see that.”
