After LGBT activists protested state recognition of a Christian K-12 accreditation agency in Pennsylvania, the state education department refused on Thursday to recognize the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI) as a fourth state-recognized agency. Twenty-two states already recognize ACSI’s accreditation standards as legitimate.
Pennsylvania requires state-recognized accreditation to participate in its private school choice programs through two tax-credit scholarships that serve approximately 85,000 kids in moderate- or low-income families. In 2022-23, nearly 165,000 students requested scholarship applications, but state lawmakers would have to allow more program funding before those students can take advantage of the initiative to attend the school of their choice.
