The Ohio State University Buckeyes are national champions after defeating Notre Dame 34-23 in the College Football Playoff national championship game on Monday night. It was the first college football championship game played under the new 12-team format implemented this season.
The win was OSU’s ninth championship in history and the first since 2014. OSU was the No. 8-seeded team in the playoffs while Notre Dame was No. 7. The victory was the first championship for OSU coach Ryan Day.
